A full-circle moment

I had one of those little full-circle moments this morning.

Since opening the boutique, I’ve thought a lot about clothes and why I love them so much. I know fashion can seem superficial or even vain, but I’ve never really seen it that way. To me, there’s something pretty powerful about putting something on that makes you feel GOOD.

And then this morning, Fischer proved my point without even knowing it.

She got new school clothes and has developed a very definite style of her own. She put this outfit on, looked at herself in the mirror, and I literally watched her whole demeanor change. The hips started swinging, there was a little extra sass in her voice, and suddenly she was a TOTAL vibe.

It made me laugh, but it also made me think about the boutique and why I’ve loved this part of my business so much more than I ever expected to.

I’ve watched women come out of the dressing room standing a little taller because they feel beautiful in something. I’ve watched their faces change when they look in the mirror and actually love what they see. And now I’m watching the exact same thing happen with my six-year-old.

There is nothing vain about feeling good about yourself.

Of course I want Fischer to know that who she is has absolutely nothing to do with what she wears or what she looks like. But I also never want her to feel like she has to downplay feeling beautiful, confident or completely herself.

Sometimes it really is just an outfit.

And sometimes you put something on, look in the mirror and think, Yep. This is me.

Judging by this picture…I think she found hers.
